BestInvest Spot The Dog Fund List Published

Published / Last Updated on 19/08/2024

BestInvest has released it’s latest ‘Spot the Dog’ list that highlights underperforming funds.

There were 137 consistently underperforming, down 9% from March 2024, with some ‘Star Managers’ escaping this time but a number of big providers and ESG sustainable funds moving to the kennels.

Dog Qualification:  5% Underpeformance within sector for 3 consecutive years to end of June.

The Kennel Residents

  • Colombia Threadneedle – 9 funds
  • Fidelity – 8 funds
  • Liontrust – 6 funds
  • St James’ Place – 3 funds
  • In addition, 44 global equity funds plus large numbers of ESG funds as they were not invested in the energy sector (by design of course) meaning they missed out on growth in that sector.

Two notable exits and back to ‘walkies’ were Terry Smith’s Fundsmith and Nick Train’s Linsell Train UK Equity.

This clearly reinforces the need to review funds regularly.  All fund managers have good years and bad so again the message is review funds regularly.
