Budget Analysis 2004 - 40,000 Civil Servants To Lose Jobs The Chancellor announced in his budget speech that 40,000 civil servants posts will be axed and a further 20,000 will be relocated away from the South-East. Part of this will be 30,000 jobs in the Department for Work and Pensions will go.
Up to 10,000 will be re-deployed and a further 10,000 will disappear when a SUPER TAX department created by the merger of Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue.
Our View
It is about time that expensive offices and expensive workers in the South East were put under scrutiny - we can only imagine that office costs are just ridiculous ! We are indeed sorry that some people may lose their employment. It is worrying that a new major SUPER organisation will come into play when they cannot solve existing issues such as the debacle with Contracted out National Insurance contributions. Or is this a shrewd by Mr Brown to get rid of those big wigs who made the "cock-ups"
