1,580 Trees Planted So Far With Our Climate Action Initiative

We were CO2e neutral and have now moved to carbon emissions negative with our climate action workforce initiative.

As an online, paperless and remote/virtual financial adviser, we have always been carbon emissions friendly. 

We even offer discounts on our fees of up to 25% off our fees to encourage clients to use remote, non-face to face advisory services.

That said, we cannot be completely free of carbon emissions.  We do use electricity, fuel for occasional business mileage and consume other services and products.

Our CO2e Emissions

We calculated that for October 2020 to October 2021 for offices and also remote workers, we created:

2,146 kgCO2e in total emissions, made up of:

• 1,371 kgCO2e in Scope 1 Emissions i.e.  petrol/fuel and
• 775 kgCO2e in Scope 2 i.e.  electricity needs (indirect impact).  Source The Carbon Trust. 
• This is around 2.11 tonnes of CO2e per year.

This is already extremely low given average household emissions are around or above 6,000 kgCO2e per year.

We wanted to go further and become emissions negative.

We have an employee benefit in place, where we subscribe to and have set up for each employee our ‘Climate Action Workforce’ via Ecologi.com.

For our monthly Climate Action Workforce subscription, all of our office CO2 emissions are offset as well as employee CO2 emissions outside of work too i.e.  personal life, by planting trees across the globe to recycle CO2 emissions into oxygen and other benefits for the planet.

Within the first month, we had already covered our whole year’s emissions with 70 trees being planted and shortly afterwards, the whole of our past 23 years trading emissions became technically carbon neutral. 

From November 2023 we have continued our efforts and now:

• Plant 4 trees per month per employee.
• That's 3.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions reduction per employee per annum.
• That's 20 trees planted per month for the company as a whole.
• Equivalent to 18 tonnes of CO2 emissions reduction for the company and its employees per annum.

As at 1 November 2024, we have:

• Had a Climate Action Workforce for 3 years.
• Planted 1,580 trees in our 'forest'.
• Achieved 138.40 tonnes of carbon (CO2e) reduction.
• This is more than double our estimated total emissions in 24 years since opening the business in September 2000 (24 years X 2.11 tonnes = 50.64 tonnes).
• It is the equivalent of 65.59 years of CO2e reduction based on our trade/business emissions of around 2.11 tonnes per year.
